A few months ago I bought a new set of rules that really intrigued me. It is called Piquet: Field of Battle, 3rd Edition . (Here on I'll use FOB) You can find the rules at this link here: https://www.piquetwargames.com/ If you want to see a play example here is a YouTube video from Sgt. Stiner's channel. This video really helped to sell me on buying the rules. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VamPhGFcn-4 Warlord Games' Black Powder, 2nd Edition rules (Here on I'll use BP) are also excellent. You can find their materials at: https://store.warlordgames.com/ BP is the more well known and popular of the two rules. I judge this by the number of people on forums and gaming videos made. I don't think it necessary to post a video of BP rules in play here. A simple search on YouTube leads to dozens of BP battle report videos on a bunch of different channels to watch examples of play. What I want to do in this post is compare the two systems and talk about what I, personall...
Wargamers Prayer: Dear Lord, You give us games that allow us to enjoy each other's company, share in fellowship, experience joy in play, learn from our past and memorialize those who came before us for the sacrifices they made. May you be with us in our games and learn about You as we play. Let's be ferocious opponents on the "battlefield" but even better friends in life. In Your Son Jesus name I pray. Amen. 1. They had just defeated the French and Bavarians at Blenheim and Now Marlborough wants to go up the Moselle river to invade France itself. However, he needs the help of Imperial Austria to do this and they don't show up in time shutting the campaign down. Marlborough now retreats his army to Flanders where he plans to push the French out of the Low Countries in what is now Belgium. The French have built a line of defe...
Many years ago as a preteen I had a wargame set up on a table when my older brother, Chris, and his friend, Tim, came by. Tim looked at my game and was interested. He said to Chris "Hey, this looks cool. Lets play!" I was quite happy to hear him say this and was hoping I could get a game going. However, Chris just said to him. "No, I don't take pleasure in human suffering." I had a lot of guilt feelings over this comment. I don't take pleasure in human suffering either. That's not why I play. Furthermore, I'm a Christian. I'm not what you call a "cultural Christian" who is a person that follows certain Christian customs out of tradition. No, I believe in Jesus Christ as the son of God who came to earth to sacrifice His life to pay for my sins as many others do, too. I also believe that He is going to return someday (likely very soon by the looks of the world). So, why the interest in wargaming? Why does it appeal so much to me? How can...
